Interpersonal Skills: Customer service: Explaining the process of extracting samples to clients, instructing patients regarding proper urine collection, listening, maintaining confidentiality, persuading reluctant clients to cooperate with collections, positioning patients, and properly identifying patients.

Technical Skills:

  • Adhering to government regulations

  • Applying tourniquets, calculating quantity of blood needed, basic life support, responding to emergency situations

  • Collecting blood using proper technique and protocol

  • Decontaminating puncture site, following infection control guidelines and identifying abnormal cells, locating appropriate veins for blood collection

  • Learning new software, data entry and documenting all procedures, Microsoft Excel and Word, ordering supplies, writing reports, correspondence, and policies.

  • Safely disposing of blood and bodily fluids, sterilizing collection site

  • Taking vital signs, testing blood for drugs, tracking specimens, transporting specimens to the laboratory
